Family system coaching
Blood is thicker than water.
But sometimes also more difficult to see through.
The family system – a deep rooting
Everyone is the child of their parents. The family – or the family system – shapes the way we think, act and feel. This does not only bring life-affirming joys. Conflicts can develop within the family system, unpleasant feelings, relationship crises, secrets, which can affect our lives to a greater or lesser extent from time to time. This often happens unconsciously. A lot of things that make life difficult, that don’t work out for you or feel like a burden, you might not necessarily associate with your family system or the community of values in which you grew up. We don’t usually question our set of values because it seems so self-evident.

THE WEB OF INTERACTIONS AND INFLUENCES
Recognizing and untangling
There are topics from your own biography or from the biography of important family members that may echo in your current life or evoke resonances. These can be, for example, dramatic births, unjust farm transfers or simply the issue of guilt, which has its roots in religion and beliefs. Ultimately, they are issues within the family system that you can somehow sense, as if they were in a fog, but which you cannot really put into words; likewise separations, early deaths, flight or expulsion. Entanglements from the past world wars also have an effect on the war children who are alive today, right through to the war grandchildren, and they leave marks.
A wide variety of circumstances, the origins of which can be found in the family system, can make you feel as if you are stuck or adrift. At worst, both at the same time. This takes energy and is therefore exhausting and very stressful. At precisely such times, which can be important turning points, the support of a coach whom you trust creates new perspectives, clarity, relief and a new attitude to life.

This is what family system coaching can offer you:
- Insights about yourself and the family system
- Insights into your own position
- Dissolution of family entanglements
- Improved self-awareness (of feelings and body reactions)
- Enabling emotional contact with family members
- Developing family values
- Working out your own values as the basis for your own actions
- Strengthening your inner attitude in your own role (e.g. as a parent, child, sibling)
This is how family-system-coaching works
Professional support will give you the opportunity to take a fresh look at your own biography. Systemic methods, i.e. methods that also take a closer look at the relationships you have experienced with your mother, father, siblings and grandparents, will guide you through a compassionate process that is accompanied by the CEE coach in a mindful and appreciative manner. You will gain insights about yourself, about values and attitudes that have had an effect on the family system and lead to the dissolution of entanglements. This can enable you to re-establish emotional contact with the family or family members.
In individual coaching sessions or group settings, you will be accompanied by the CEE coach in a way that suits you. Tapping techniques are used, for example. It can also be helpful to create an extended family tree (genogram) or to explore unpleasant feelings in a mindful body journey. The four golden steps of non-violent communication can also be used as a bridge to improved understanding. Appreciative communication on the part of the coach is also guaranteed by the ethical guidelines to which the CEE Association is committed.
Methods used include family biographical coaching, Somatic Experience according to Peter Levine and non-violent communication (NVC) according to Marshall B. Rosenberg.
We will be there for you and offer expert knowledge and empathy
It may not be the special strategy which makes all the difference in peoples´ work for people. The most important thing is whether the coach is “the right person for you” in precisely this life situation, at precisely this point in time. Get in touch with the coaches who are responsible for family and systemic coaching within the CEE Association. Based on their own personal and varied experiences, each of the coaches has his/her own particular approach to family system coaching.
